How the Body Naturally Births the Placenta

The placenta does not simply fall out after birth. A complex hormonal process led by oxytocin helps the uterus detach the placenta and stop bleeding.

Many people assume the placenta simply comes out after the baby.

But the body has been preparing for this moment for weeks before labour even begins.

Placental birth is not random.

It is a carefully orchestrated biological process involving:

  • hormonal signals
  • uterine contractions
  • maternal-infant bonding

At the center of this process is one powerful hormone.

Oxytocin.

Often called the love hormone, oxytocin is also the hormone that protects women from dangerous bleeding after birth.
