Hello everyone! As a nurse, I spend a lot of time on my feet, and I see firsthand how our daily habits impact our long-term health.
You don’t need a massive lifestyle overhaul to feel better. In fact, the secret to having more energy throughout the day starts in the very first 30 minutes after you wake up.
Here are three simple, science-backed habits I recommend adding to your morning routine:
1. Drink a Full Glass of Water Before Coffee
After 7-8 hours of sleep, your body is naturally dehydrated. Drinking water first thing jumpstarts your metabolism, flushes out toxins, and actually wakes up your brain faster than caffeine!
2. Do a 5-Minute Stretch
You don’t need a full workout. Just reaching for your toes and rolling your shoulders increases blood flow to your muscles and sends oxygen to your brain. It prevents that stiff, achy feeling later in the day.
3. Take 3 Deep, Intentional Breaths
Before looking at your phone or checking emails, take 3 slow, deep breaths. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and exhale for 4 seconds. This instantly lowers your cortisol (stress hormone) levels and sets a calm tone for the day.
Remember, your health is a marathon, not a sprint. Small, consistent steps make the biggest difference!
